We all do better with a healthy and thriving, inclusive information environment. Where people value, trust and can utilise good information. Where people have the freedom (from false information) to be well-informed.

Our Countering False Information training is a hands-on tactical training focussed on what we can do about false information. We will share with you three tactics we recommend you use to deal with false information. We’ll explain why those tactics work, what they look like in practice, share some tools to support the tactics and we’ll have a go at using the tactics.

This is an in-person training held in central Wellington on Friday 23 February from 9am - 1pm.

Please arrive at 8.30 to allow time to get settled in and meet the other participants and trainers. Morning tea will be provided as well as coffee and tea on arrival.

The training consists of:
• Pre-reading (1 hour)
• Training workshop (half day)

The pre-reading, which covers why information is so sticky and why arguing the facts doesn’t work, is a pre-requisite for attending the course and we ask that participants please prepare by completing this before the day of the training.

Before the course you will receive the training handbook which supports the training and includes the pre-reading.

THE HANDBOOK INCLUDES:
• explanations — insights and research that sit behind this approach to false information
• tactics — effective ways to counter false information (based on the research)
• tools — templates, charts, checklists, and guides to help you use those tactics
• exercises — to practise using the tools
• examples — of what these tactics look like in practice.

THE HANDBOOK WILL HELP YOU UNDERSTAND:
• why false information can be so compelling to people
• why some commonly used tactics for combating false information don’t work
• what does work to counter and prevent the spread of false information
• why it works
• what it looks like in practice.

The handbook is intended to be used before, during and after the training session.

** EARLY BIRD prices until the end of 20 December
